Overlooked Ventures 2021 Year In Review
2022 is just around the corner, and we’re celebrating a great year at Overlooked Ventures! 2021 was a year of new beginnings, extraordinary growth, and excitement at our fund. We launched Overlooked Ventures as a 506(c) in May of this year, making 2021 our founding and first-year operating and investing in startups with one or more historically-ignored founders. The Overlooked Ventures team hit the ground running after our launch, securing investment from LPs, building our team, and putting money into founders and startups.
Before we go into the new year, thank you for all of your support these past few months! Now let’s take a look back at what we accomplished in 2021.
Fund Stats
Overlooked Ventures by the numbers in 2021. We raised $10M in capital from LPs and an institutional investor, grew our network, and most importantly worked with an amazing group of founders.
Our Investments
As soon as we were able to Overlooked Ventures deployed capital into amazing tech-enabled startups and founders across several different industries. We can officially announce 5 of our portfolio companies, with 2 more coming soon.

The OV Team
At Overlooked Ventures, we believe that investing in diverse founders starts with a diverse team. That’s why we prioritize hiring and working with diverse individuals.
Events
Overlooked Ventures partners spend the year on the ground with founders and potential LPs. We hosted two Pitch Party events, one in Columbus and another in NYC. Overall, we brought together over 250 founders, investors, LPs, and startup allies.
Press & Community Involvement
In addition to working with founders and investors this year, Brandon & I had speaking engagements at: U.S. Treasury and CDFA, UC Berkeley, GSV Startup Bootcamp, EY Entrepreneur Access Network, StartOut Equity Summit, City of Columbia Tech Council, and Meet Our Fund Event by Inside.com.
Overlooked Ventures got some hype and I was featured in Forbes as one of the 51 VCs Who Want To Invest In Women, Black And Latinx, And LGBTQ+ Founders and recognized in Business Insider as a Rising Star VC.
Brandon joined the City of Columbia Tech Advisory Council and won a spot in the Twitter Spaces Spark Program for his OV VC Chats on Twitter Spaces
